When Aadhit was 4 months, his parents felt that he probably could not hear. Around the age of 9 months, audiological evaluation confirmed a bilateral profound hearing loss. Initially they had reservations about a cochlear implant surgery as the treatment for Aadhit’s hearing loss and hence turned to alternative therapies. But 8-9 months later when trial with various other options failed, they realised that a cochlear implant was the only way to help Aadhit restore his hearing.
Aadhit received his first cochlear implant at the age of 2 years. Post implantation with adequate habilitation, Aadhit developed good speech and language. He efficiently communicates with his friends and peers and is like any other 6- year old. Seeing his progress, Aadhit’s parents decided to go ahead with a second implant in the other ear. With bilateral implants, Aadhit now has better directionality of sound and better speech & music appreciation. Listening from a distance has also subsequently improved.
