Maharukh’s family realised that she had a hearing loss when she was 9 months-old. With the audiological tests showing a bilateral profound hearing loss, they were initially in a state of shock. When hearing aids did not help, they decided to go ahead with a cochlear implant surgery.

Post her cochlear implant surgery, Maharukh started hearing and developed speech and language. Today, Maharukh is a completely independent young woman who harbors the dream of becoming one of India’s top fashion designers.
